Easy Ahi Tuna Fish Recipes

Hi Healthy Living Junkies!   I love fish and I am always looking for easy fish recipes. Here is one of my personal favorite easy ahi tuna fish recipes from the island of Hawaii called “Poke”.  Poke is made from ahi tuna, and is served raw.  If you like sushi, you will love Hawaiian Poke.

Easy Fish Recipe

In Hawaii, it is served as an appetizer, but you can also serve it as a main meal over a bed of greens for a easy lunch or fast dinner.  I made a video recipe for you so you can see how easy it is to make!  Fat burning foods include lean protein, such as fish.  This easy fish recipe is high in protein, low carbs and is delicious.

 

 

Easy Fish Video Recipe – Hawaiian Poke

 

 

Traditional Hawaiian Poke Recipe

Preparation Time:10 minutes
Total time:10 minutes
Serves 2 to 4
 

 

Ingredients
  • 1 lb. fresh ahi tuna steaks, cut into cubed, bite-size pieces
  • 1/4 cup chopped green onions (tops included)
  • 1/4 cup soy sauce (shoyu)
  • 1/4  cup chopped Maui onion (or yellow onion)
  • 2 tsp. sesame oil
  • 2 tsp. toasted sesame seeds
  • 1 teaspoon of chili garlic paste

Take all the ingredients and combine them.  Serve immediately.  For more flavor, let it marinade in the fridge for 30 minutes.  Serve over a bed of greens for a healthy salad or eat as an appetizer.

You can keep poke in the refrigerator for 2-3 days.  After 2-3 days, you can pan sear it or cook it.

You can use different types of sashimi grade fish for poke.  I’ve tried octopus poke, mixed with sea weed.  The possibilities are endless!

Next time you are stressed or see someone who is having a rough day, reach out and give them a hug.  Both of you will get the positive effects from hugs.  Remember, part of living a healthy and fit lifestyle is to make sure all aspects of your life is healthy, not just the way you look, but more importantly, the way you feel about yourself.   Being healthy and fit starts from the inside, and looking awesome in that swimsuit is just bonus!  =)

How to Stay Motivated

Staying fit and living a healthy healthy lifestyles can get monotonous after a while. I mean, you can only eat so much grilled chicken before you get tired of it. In order to stay motivated, you have to keep things exciting. I challenge you this week to inject some ENTHUSIASM into your fitness routine and clean eating meals. Like Ralph Waldo Emerson once said, “”.

How do you stay motivated?  Change things up.

Instead of making the same meals every week, try a new recipe. There are so many different types of seasonings and spices to add flavor and excitement back into your foods.  One of my new favorite healthy meals is salmon patties. Take 2-3 oz of canned salmon, add 1/2 a stock of green onion, an egg, and a dash of salt and pepper.  Heat up a pan and cook for 1min each side. Serve open faced or on two thick slices of tomato with a side of green vegetables. Yummy!

Try using a different seasoning on your staple meals.  Add a little lemon zest to your chicken with sea salt and pepper and it adds a punch of flavor to your food.   Use a little curry powder, red pepper and light coconut milk and saute chicken onions and tomatoes and it is like taking a food journey to Thailand.  The possibilities are endless!  If you love sushi, try my Healthy Hawaiian Poke recipe, which uses sashimi grade tuna.  It is delicious!

One of my favorite ways to stay motivated with my workouts is to try a new class.  Sites like Groupon or Living Social has great deals where you can get a major discount on a classes and fun events.  Try a new Pilate or yoga class.  Try your hand at fencing or martial arts.  Take a kickboxing class.  Mixing up your workouts will also keep your body challenged and also make things fun and exciting.

Hi Healthy Living Junkies! You hear people talk about “Being Healthy”, “Eating Clean”, but what does it really mean to be healthy?  How do you truly achieve a healthy lifestyle?  Many people think being healthy is getting to the right body weight and losing the extra pounds of body fat they were holding on to…. and they can finally stop making effort, get off the “clean eating”, stop exercising or go to the gym, and their body will maintain itself.  I hate to break it to you, but that is not true.  I’ll be the first to admit I believed that I could stop trying to “be healthy” once I reached my goal, and my body will stay the same.

The truth is, living a healthy lifestyle is literally what it means: TO MAKE IT A LIFESTYLE.  In order to stay healthy, be fit, and be in good physical and mental shape, you must constantly work at it.

 Health Living Tips

1)  Eat healthy:  Making healthy foods choices is one of the most important, if not the most important, thing you can do to maintain a healthy lifestyle.  Look for foods high in fiber, which will keep you feeling full fast, as well as low in Glycemic Index (GI), which will help prevent your blood sugar from spiking.

2)  Drink plenty of water:  Drinking water helps keep you hydrated and flushes the impurities from your body.  Many times we mistaken thirst for hunger.  Aim to drink half of your body weight in oz of water.  Here’s a video on why drinking water is important for overall health.

3)  Exercise regularly:  Exercising regular not only helps you look better in clothes or on the beach, it also helps keep you strong, supporting your bones and improving your physical function.  Weight lifting will help build shapely legs, thighs, butt, and flatten your core, as well as prevent osteoporosis, protect your back and neck, while preventing injuries.

4) Minimize toxins:  Minimize your exposure to toxins by using PBA free products, buying organic foods, and using the “green” version of cleaning supplies.  A great DIY cleaning solution for everyday household chores is vinegar and water.  Check out this site for more ways to use this everyday inexpensive household item to clean your home.  You can also minimize toxins by eating organic foods.  Learn which produce have the most chemicals in this article.

5) Reduce stress:  Stress is the silent killer in our modern life.  It leads to premature illnesses, as well as unbalanced mental health.  Exercising helps alleviate stress by allowing you to have a healthy outlet for it.  Some great ways to relax are yoga, meditation, or simply relaxing with your eyes closed for a few minutes so you can regroup, decompress, and get centered.

Healthy living will keep you fit, strong, and improve your quality of life.  It is the best way to stay in shape while being happy and healthy. =)
