Healthy Blueberry Smoothie

Hi Healthy Living Junkies!   This is Annie and Andrea and we have a delicious healthy blueberry smoothie recipe for you.  It’s our favorite blueberry smoothie recipe because not only does it taste amazing, it is incredibly good for you too! Blueberries are high in antioxidants, which is has all kinds of health benefits including cancer fighting properties, is heart healthy, and well as improves your complexion.  Beauty in a cup?  Sign us up!  Flax seed is a healthy fat and aids in digestions, and the protein powder feeds your muscles.  Bananas are a healthy carb and is also high in fiber and nutrients.  Coconut milk is a great substitute for cow’s milk, is easier to digest and is also lactose free and has a rich creamy taste.

 

 

Healthy Blueberry Smoothie

Ingredients – 2 servings – Just half the recipe for one  =)

1 cup of blueberries (frozen or fresh, we used frozen)
1 banana
1 cup of coconut milk
1 scoop of protein powder (vanilla or unflavored)
2 teaspoons of flax seed (grounded)
Stevia (to taste)

 

 

Take all the ingredients and put it into a blender.  Blend for 10-15 seconds.  Pour in a cup and enjoy!  =) Try out our Blueberry smoothie and tell us what you think!  Better yet, show us your pictures!

Hi Healthy Living Junkies!  Love chocolate?  Try Cacao.  What is Cacao?  Cacao is healthy chocolate!  Cacao is raw chocolate, full of nutritional value, and tastes great! What is cacao? Cacao (kə-kau, ka-kow, is the dried seeds of a South American evergreen tree, which are most commonly used in making cocoa, chocolate, and cocoa butter. It is also called cacao bean, and cocoa bean. Cacao has long been enjoyed for its healthful and invigorating properties in Mexican, Central, and South American cultures. In fact, Mayan civilizations associated cacao with the food that their gods chose to consume and thrive upon. So impressed were the Mayans with cacao’s taste (and its ability to promote energy), that cacao paste was frequently used in sacred rituals, with an annual festival held devoted entirely to honoring the “cacao god.” Today, we continue to celebrate the bean of the cacao plant as the nutritional and flavorful source for all chocolate and cocoa products.

Cacao contains a naturally rich supply of antioxidants, and is also an excellent source of dietary fiber. In addition, cacao is known to be one of the highest dietary sources of magnesium, contains an impressively high iron content, and also possesses many other essential minerals in significant quantities. You can use it to bake instead of using regular chocolate chips, put it in smoothies, sprinkle it on yogurt, or just enjoy it by itself.  You can buy cacao from your favorite health food store or buy cacao online.
